Legal Wellness Clinic's First Year: Building Justice, Strengthening Communities
🎉 Celebrating One Year of Service (June 27, 2025 – June 27, 2026)
One year ago, I started the Legal Wellness Clinic to address a common problem I saw in legal aid: People don't reach out for legal help until they are in a crisis. While legal check-ups have been attempted before, they have been online-first, limiting their usage and impact. The vision was to bring this type of preventative intervention to trusted community-based partners to lower the barrier to entry and allow people to easily access free legal advice.
One year later, I can confidently say this model works. It works for community partners like libraries who are looking to provide needed resources in the community. It works for volunteer law students and attorneys, who enjoy being able to give back without committing to an unknown time commitment. But most importantly it works for clients, who uniformly report feeling more informed about their rights and more prepared for any potential legal problems after a check-up.
Thank you to everyone who helped us to get to this point, and stay tuned as we plan to continue to grow over the next year to bring legal wellness to more people in need.
